The big Bulgarian wedding for 200 people, three DJs, a drone videographer and tables in plastic covers is on the way out. Something different is taking its place: the micro-wedding — an event for 10 to 30 people, in a beautiful place, with the focus on intimacy rather than scale. And if that is the brief, Balchik with Cossara is one of the three or four best venues in Bulgaria for it.
This article is about what a micro-wedding looks like with us, which scenarios we support, what it costs, and when it is best to schedule.
What a micro-wedding is and why it is a trend
A micro-wedding is a wedding event with a smaller guest count — usually between 2 (the couple alone — an elopement) and 40 people. The trend has gained momentum in Bulgaria over the past five years for three reasons: economic (a 200-guest wedding in Sofia costs €25,000 to €40,000), stylistic (smaller events allow more coherent planning), and philosophical (fewer guests means real conversations with each of them).
In Balchik a micro-wedding has an additional argument — the location itself. You are not confined to a hall with artificial light and silk flowers — you have the sea, the cliffs, the terraces, and the gardens, which do 80% of the decorating for you.
Our capacity: 12 villas + 24-seat restaurant
Cossara has a physical limit: 12 villas (most of them designed for two), and a 24-seat restaurant. That means our maximum micro-wedding is 30–40 people — no more. We do not pretend we can do a 100-guest event under a tent on the lawn. We can't, and we don't want to.
The limit is actually good for quality. 30 people in our restaurant means each guest gets a carefully cooked dinner, not catering pulled from 100-litre pots. The couple has time to speak with each guest in person, not just wave across a hall.
Scenario 1: Elopement (just the two of you, plus witnesses)
The most intimate version — just the two of you, plus one or two witnesses (sometimes not even that, if you arrange the official registration in Bulgaria and arrive with two friends or relatives).
The schedule looks like this: you arrive two days before the wedding to recover from the journey; on the wedding day a late breakfast on the terrace, hair and make-up in the room, ceremony at 5 pm on our seafront terrace (with a view of the sea), one hour of photography, then an intimate dinner for two in our restaurant (or in your villa if you prefer) with a tasting menu and champagne.
Price: from €2,500. Includes: villa for three nights, ceremony, flowers, photographer (two hours), official registration (with translation for foreign nationals), dinner, champagne.
Scenario 2: Close circle (10–20 guests)
For couples who want their nearest people around them — parents, siblings, closest friends. 10–20 guests fit comfortably in our villas (we share capacity among the guests), and the ceremony and dinner go as above, just with more people.
The atmosphere at this size is perfect for couples who do not want a "wedding" in the traditional sense, but rather two or three days together with their loved ones.

Scenario 3: Family wedding (30–40 guests)
Our maximum configuration. The villas are entirely full (some guests share larger villas), the restaurant is dedicated to your wedding for two evenings, and we work entirely around your programme.
This is the version for people who have an extended family or friend group that cannot fit under 30, but who want the micro-wedding quality format — not a mass event.

What is included, what is not
Included: accommodation, ceremony (with a local manager organising it), decoration (roses, candles, white fabrics), guest flowers (boutonnieres for men, small posies for women), catering (dinner and lunch the next day), champagne, coffee, photographer (2–4 hours depending on the package).
Not included: videographer (we recommend two or three from Varna; pricing is separate), wedding cake (we can arrange it with a local pastry chef; pricing separate), musicians or DJ (same — we recommend contacts but the payments are separate), official registration with translation (separate fee around €250), church ceremony (we arrange it at the local church, around €200).
When is the best time to schedule it
June and September are the perfect months. June — spring bloom, mild climate, long days. September — Indian summer, still warm, golden light, harvest at the local wineries. July and August work too, but they are hotter and more crowded with general tourists around you.
Within a month, the best wedding days are Thursday and Friday — we have more flexibility on the restaurant (tourist occupancy is lower), and your guests can use the weekend to travel back without rushing.
