There are two ways to handle October. The first — accept that the season is over, and start planning the Christmas holidays. The second — notice that October in Balchik still works, and grab one last warm weekend before the whole summer goes back into its box. We are in favour of the second.
This article is about what October looks like at Cossara, what temperatures to expect, and why this month is one of the better-kept secrets on our calendar.
The real October weather in Balchik
We will not pretend — October is not summer. Mornings and evenings are cooler than they were even in mid-September. But midday temperatures in the first two weeks of October are often 18–22 °C — perfect for a terrace lunch. By mid-month they drop to 15–20 °C. By the last week they sit at 12–17 °C.
The sea holds heat longer than the air. In the first week of October the sea is 19–20 °C — warmer than it was at the end of May. Mid-month, 17 °C. By month's end, 14–15 °C. For our heated pool, this does not matter — we keep it at the season temperature. For a barefoot beach walk, it is perfect until mid-month.
Rain in October — about 5–8 days in the month. Usually short showers (1–2 hours), with the sun returning afterwards. Long all-day rain is rare — usually 1–2 such days per month.
The last days of the pool
We close the pool around 15 October, depending on the weather. If October is particularly warm, we extend to the 20th. The decision is made a week in advance — if you have booked for the end of the month and want a confirmed date, ask when you confirm the booking.
Until closing, the pool runs at full temperature (26–28 °C). Which means you can swim in 27-degree water while the air around you is 18 °C. The effect is strange and pleasant — like being in an outdoor warm bath without hiding from nature.
The Finnish sauna comes into its own
Our Finnish sauna runs all year, but October is the month when it becomes most useful. The contrast of body warmth between a cool evening outside and a warm room (80–85 °C) is one of the best things you can give the body — it improves circulation and encourages a deeper sleep that night.
We recommend a sauna in the evening between 7 and 8:30 — after dinner, before bed. The session is 30–45 minutes with breaks (15 minutes inside, 5 minutes out, repeat 2–3 times). It is included in the stay — not a paid extra.
Harvest in the wine valley
October is harvest month in north-eastern Bulgaria. Wineries like Salla Estate (near Kavarna) take visitors for tastings, which include a walk through the vineyards if you arrive during a picking week.
For our guests, we can arrange a half-day tour — 4 hours, 2 wineries, lunch at one with local produce, tasting of 5–6 wines in total. Around €80 per person, organised through a trusted partner. It is one of our favourite experiences for September–October.
What the restaurant cooks
Our menu in October leans into autumn comfort. Mussels and cold soups disappear. In their place: vine leaves stuffed with sheep's cheese (from our own vines in the back garden), slow-roasted lamb (4 hours in the oven at 110 °C), chicken broth with quince, roasted pumpkin with walnuts and honey.
Our sommelier works more actively in October — wine becomes more important than in summer. We recommend the tasting menu (4 courses + 4 glasses of wine) — in October it is perfect with local red blends.
Halloween for Two — 29 October to 1 November
This is not a party. Halloween at Cossara is the quiet version for couples — candles in the room, pumpkin soup at dinner, a blanket on the terrace with hot cocoa in the evening, the Finnish sauna in the morning. For people who want "something special in October" without putting on masks and shouting.

October pricing
Soft. About 30–40% lower than July–August. For a couple planning four nights in a Deluxe Pool, the difference can be €600–800 from peak season. Enough for an upgrade to a better villa or for an extra night.
There is another aspect that is not directly "price": October is a quiet month, so we have more flexibility on upgrades. If you have booked a Deluxe Pool and a Grand Deluxe is free at arrival, we often offer it without an extra charge.
The Indian Summer offer — new for 2026
This year we have launched a new package for the end of the season: Indian Summer (20–30 September + the first week of October). Includes: 4 nights, all dinners, one couples' massage, one sauna session, free check-in/out flexibility (±24 hours), and a COSSARA Coffee gift bag at departure.

When the last dinner of the season is
Our restaurant runs to 31 October, every day for dinner. After 31 October — by prior arrangement only, for private events (late-October micro-weddings, anniversaries, small business visits).
If you arrive at the end of October, dinner is always available — but some spa treatments stop after the 25th. If you want a specific treatment (Balinese, hot stone), confirm at booking.
How to book the last weekend
